 | Title: Life Above the Negativity Author: Trevor H. Lund Publisher: ImaginePublishing.com
Format: Print book Reviewer: Lynn Fowler |
Following a friend's prophetic vision of a wave of criticism coming against the Church, the author found himself thinking in terms of a "fast from negativity." Horrified that his research revealed that the only ones writing about such a concept were "business gurus and New Age practitioners selling dubious products", he decided that there was a definite need for something written from a Christian perspective. The result was this book.
Originally published as "40 Days from Negativity - an appetizer for life", the book walks the reader through a 40 day "negativity fast", with new concepts introduced each day.
The writer begins by setting a Scriptural foundation both of what to avoid and what to seek - though I thought the purpose of the book might have been better served by reversing the order of these (i.e. putting the positive first.)
He then goes on to give some basic, practical strategies for dealing with the battleground of the mind (many of which are repeated later in the book) before going on to the actual days of the "fast".
Each of the 40 days includes a Truth, a Thought, a Prayer, a Challenge and a Declaration. The days progress through the armor of God, the fruit of the Spirit, the renewal of the mind, forgiveness, acceptance of circumstances, using the Word of God, dealing with discouragement, seeking God's presence, and finally love.
I'm sure there are many people for whom this book will be a great blessing, perhaps even the means of turning their lives around. For me personally, however, it was frustratingly over-simplistic.
